Designed by H R Bastow and erected in 1877, this brick school with a verandah on all sides is believed to be the first school to incorporate the Tobin tube ventilation system, named after its inventor. Built as Primary School No 2258 by Joseph Jarvis in 1886 for 200 pupils it is the only one of this standard plan and size to have survived without major alterations and additions.
